Dental ImplantHave you lost a tooth? Grand Junction, CO, dentists Drs. Brandon and William Berguin and Kira Funderburk of Western Slope Dental Center help their patients restore their smiles with dental implants. These implants will fill the gap in your smile and improve your biting ability! Although most people are good candidates for implants, there are a few things you'll need to consider before starting the implant process.

Is Your Jawbone Strong and Deep?

Dental implants are small titanium posts placed in openings made in your jawbone. The implants bond to your jawbone over the course of several months and are topped with dental crowns that fill in the spaces between your teeth.

Good jawbone depth and strength is particularly important, as your implant may fail if your jawbone cannot adequately support it. Luckily, it's often possible to build up weak or shallow jawbones with bone grafts.

Do You Have Any Health Problems?

Although most health problems won't prevent you from getting an implant, any condition or disease that slows your body's ability to heal may prevent you from restoring your smile with an implant. If you have an immune system disorder or take medications that suppress your immune system function, implants may not be a good idea for you. Smoking or uncontrolled diabetes may also interfere with your body's ability to heal quickly.

Have You Had Gum Disease or Another Oral Health Problem?

Dental implants offer an excellent restoration option if you've lost teeth due to gum disease. However, before you can receive your implant, your Grand Junction dentist must be satisfied that you've healed completely. They may also suggest beginning the implant process after treating other oral health issues.

Are You Looking for an Alternative to Removable Dentures?

In addition to restoring one or two missing teeth, dental implants can also help make your dentures more comfortable. Given that implants are securely anchored to your jawbone, your dentures won't slip or slide when you eat. Implant-supported dentures also don't significantly decrease your biting power as removable dentures can, which means that you won't have to give up your favorite foods.

Discover the many ways in which you can get that whiter smile.teeth whitening

A smile that is full of stains and discolorations can certainly be embarrassing, but there are so many options out there to help you achieve that whiter smile that you don’t have to live with yellowing, stained teeth. While teeth whitening will certainly offer you fast and effective results, our Grand Junction, CO, cosmetic dentists Dr. Brandon Berguin, Dr. Kira Funderburk and Dr. William Berguin are here to talk about the many ways in which you can address your dental stains.

Whitening Products

If you feel like your smile only needs a little boost then you may find the results you need through at-home whitening products. Whitening toothpastes and even at-home kits can be enough for those only looking to remove minor surface stains. Just make sure to always follow the directions. Of course, it’s necessary to acknowledge that most at-home methods won’t give you fast or dramatic results.

Professional Teeth Whitening

If you are dealing with serious dental stains caused by years of smoking or coffee drinking, then you’ve come to the right place. Our Grand Junction, CO, dentists are ready to help you tackle those stains and yellow teeth to get you a visibly whiter smile. There are two ways in which to do this: in-office whitening and at-home whitening. If you have severe stains and you want to get rid of them quickly then your best option is in-office whitening. Professional whitening actually changes the shade of your teeth. In as little as one session we could get your smile multiple shades whiter.

At-home whitening is also available. Our whitening kit uses customized whitening trays, which ensures more uniform and even whitening, while the whitening gel is stronger and provides better results in a shorter period of time than commercial whitening kits.

Dental Veneers

Sometimes the stains you have can’t be treated through professional teeth whitening. If stains are too severe, or are internal rather than external, then you will need to turn to other cosmetic options to hide these stains. These porcelain shells are often the best way to cover severe discolorations and other imperfections and to give you a more beautiful smile. Even if teeth whitening isn’t right for you, dental veneers could be.

Are you interested in getting professional teeth whitening in Grand Junction, CO? If so, then the next step is to find out if you are right for this treatment. Call Western Slope Dental Center today to schedule a consultation with our dental team.

How cosmetic dentistry from Grand Junction can improve your smiledental procedures

People often visit the dentist because of tooth pain, but wouldn’t it be nice to visit the dentist to actually improve the appearance of your smile? Too many people forget about cosmetic dental services and how the right cosmetic dental procedure can give you a beautiful smile. Your dentists at Western Slope Dental Center in Grand Junction, CO want to introduce you to some dental services you may want to consider.

If your teeth aren’t as bright white as they once were, you may want to consider a professional teeth whitening treatment. Professional teeth whitening is different than generic whitening kits you can buy at the store. Professional teeth whitening offers results that you can’t get with over-the-counter products. You can whiten your teeth up to 8 shades whiter and the results can last up to 5 years! Western Slope Dental Center offers a rapid in-office whitening treatment that takes about an hour, or a convenient take-home whitening kit.

If you need a filling, before you jump to metal fillings, you may want to consider a cosmetic filling. Composite, a liquid resin, is used for cosmetic fillings. After the material is color-matched and sculpted perfectly to match your teeth, the composite is hardened using a high-tech ultraviolet light. The result is a filling that is virtually invisible when you smile.

If you have jagged, unsightly teeth, you might want to consider dental bonding. Like cosmetic fillings, dental bonding uses composite which is matched to the color of your teeth. The composite is laid over the top of the treatment area and then hardened with the ultraviolet light. Dental bonding is often combined with recontouring and reshaping to create a more uniform, harmonious smile.

If you want a dazzling smile that pops, you might want to consider porcelain veneers, which are thin sheaths of porcelain cemented onto the front surfaces of your teeth. The porcelain is translucent and reflects light, so the veneers look completely natural and beautiful. Porcelain also resists stains, giving you a lifetime of bright white smiles.

When you visit the dentist, think about improving your smile with a cosmetic dental treatment. For more information about cosmetic and restorative dentistry call your dentists at Western Slope Dental Center in Grand Junction, CO today!

Hate the way your teeth look when you smile? Teeth whitening offers a simple way to turn your smile from dull to dazzling. Dr. Brandon teeth whiteningBerguin and Dr. Kira Funderburk, your Grand Junction, CO dentists at Western Slope Dental Center, answer a few questions about teeth whitening.

What are the advantages of professional teeth whitening?

You'll find plenty of teeth whitening products in the dental care aisle at the drugstore or grocery store, but these products don't offer the same results and benefits of professional whitening. When you take advantage of professional whitening, you'll experience:

  • Better Results: Depending on the product, some over-the-counter teeth whitening kits don't seem to make much of a difference in your smile, even if you follow the instructions exactly. Your Grand Junction, CO dentist uses professional-strength hydrogen peroxide gel, which isn't available in commercial kits. After professional whitening, you can expect your teeth to be an average of three to eight shades whiter.
  • Whiter Teeth While You Wait: Don't want to devote weeks to teeth whitening? In just one one-hour session at your dentist's office, your teeth will be noticeably whiter. Professional teeth whitening is ideal if you don't have time to keep up with a lengthy teeth whitening schedule or know you'll forget when it's time to use your kit again.

What if I prefer whitening at home?

You can take advantage of professional results at your dentist's office or at home. If you prefer, your dentist will create custom whitening trays that you can use at home. You'll simply add a little gel to the trays and follow the recommended whitening schedule.

How does the dentist protect my gums?

Whitening gels and products can irritate your gums and roots, causing pain and sensitivity. Your comfort during and after the teeth whitening process is your dentist's priority. Before the whitening process begins, he or she will apply protective gel to your gums and use retractors to keep your lips or cheeks from coming in contact with the whitener.

Are ready to transform your smile? Call Dr. Berguin and Dr. Funderburk, your Grand Junction, CO dentists at Western Slope Dental Center, PC, at (970) 241-3483 to schedule an appointment for teeth whitening. Brighten your smile with professional teeth whitening treatment!

Find out everything you need to know about professional teeth whitening and whether it’s right for you.

You’re sick and tired of stained, yellow teeth and are finally ready to brighten your smile. In fact, you may even be trying commercial teeth whiteningwhitening products right now. But if you aren’t getting the look that you want then it might be time to ramp up your whitening results by seeing our Grand Junction, CO dentists Dr. Berguin or Dr. Kira Funderburk.

Q. Is my smile right for teeth whitening?

A. Many patients are able to enjoy the radiant benefits of whitening, but everyone’s smile and needs are different and unique. If you are looking to remove surface stains caused by consuming certain foods or drinks, or from smoking, then professional in-office teeth whitening in Grand Junction, CO may be right for you.

Your smile must be free of cavities or gum disease before you can get your teeth whitened. Also, take note that while strong, professional whitening gel cannot remove internal stains or remove stains or dullness from dental work like crowns, fillings or bridges.

Q. How long will it take to get teeth whitening?

A. Traditionally, it takes about 45 minutes to get your teeth whitening in our office. This includes three, 15-minute whitening gel applications in which we also use a laser to speed up the process.

If you opt for our at-home kits it may take two or more weeks to start seeing your results.

Q. What is the procedure like?

A. When you come in for teeth whitening we will first clean your teeth thoroughly and then use a separator to expose the surface of your teeth while also protecting gums and sensitive tissue from the bleach.

Then we will apply a layer of gel to your teeth and direct a light beam at your teeth to activate the gel. As we mentioned above, most teeth whitening procedures require three, 15-minute whitening applications in which we will remove the old layer and reapply a new one that we will laser-activate each time.

Q. How long will my results last?

On average, professional whitening results can last anywhere from six months to two years, depending on your oral hygiene and what foods you consume. For those who smoke, drink coffee or wine, or consume a lot of stain-producing foods, their results may not last as long.

Q. Is teeth whitening safe?

Studies have found that teeth whitening is completely safe for your teeth and will not damage enamel, if used properly. By coming into our office for treatment you can expect to get amazing, effective and safe results.

While teeth sensitivity can occur in some patients after whitening, we would be happy to talk to you about ways to reduce sensitivity either before or after your treatment.
